Big Barnsley Baby Shower returns with support, advice and activities for families

Barnsley families who are expecting a baby or caring for a newborn can find advice, support and local services in one place when the Big Barnsley Baby Shower returns this November.

The first months of a baby’s life matter. Barnsley Best Start in Life Family Hubs are hosting the free drop-in event to help families ask questions, find trusted advice and get support with feeding, health, childcare, early development and family wellbeing.

The event is for Barnsley families who are expecting a baby or have a baby aged up to six months. It takes place on Saturday 7 November at Barnsley Metrodome, from 10am to 1pm.

Families will be able to meet local services that support pregnancy, birth and the first two years of a child’s life, who work in partnership to deliver our local healthy babies offer. Services include 0-19 Public Health, Infant Feeding, Childcare Entitlements. Best Start in Life Family Hubs, Parent Support, Barnsley Libraries, Healthy Mums and more. There will also be family-friendly activities, including photoshoots, crafts and games, to make the event welcoming for parents, carers and babies.

Families can also take part in:

  • professional photoshoots with bump or baby

  • bump painting and hand and foot crafts

  • games for families with a new baby

  • time to meet other expectant parents, new parents, carers and babies

  • a gift for each family and refreshments.

The first Barnsley Baby Shower took place in November 2025. Almost 200 people came along, including expectant parents, parents with newborn babies, siblings and grandparents. Families said the event helped them make memories, try activities and find out what support is available during pregnancy and after their baby is born.

Councillor Gary Hall, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children’s Services, said:

“The earliest days, weeks and months of a baby’s life are important. Families need clear advice and the right support early, before small worries become bigger ones.

This event brings services together in one place so families can talk to people face to face, ask questions and find out what help is available. It is part of the wider Best Start in Life and Healthy Babies programme of work to give babies the strongest start we can.”

Barnsley’s Best Start in Life Family Hubs support children, young people and families from pregnancy to age 19, or up to 25 for young people with a disability. Family Hubs are based across the borough and offer support, information and activities for local families.
