Celebrating Barnsley’s Young Musicians’ Successes on Stage and Beyond
Barnsley Council is proud to recognise the incredible achievements of Barnsley Music Service’s young musicians, who recently took centre stage at the world-renowned Royal Albert Hall. This milestone performance is a testament to the dedication of the Barnsley Music Service team, the talent and creativity of our young people, and our commitment to ensuring that every child can dream big and have the chance to succeed.
Barnsley Music Service is a vibrant hub where children and young people can explore their musical talents through tuition, ensembles, workshops, and masterclasses. Whether performing in local venues or prestigious national stages, the service empowers students, groups, schools, and the wider community to connect through music.
Some of the rising stars from Barnsley Music Service include:
-
Holly Musgreave, a Grade 8 Tuba player and Principal Tuba for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. A former pupil of Birkwood Primary School, Holly’s journey began in Barnsley and has led to national recognition. She will soon begin studies at the Royal Northern College of Music, supported by the British Army.
-
Harrison Griffiths, a talented Year 6 pupil from Mapplewell Primary School who has already achieved Grade 5 in Trumpet and is a proud member of the Barnsley Town Concert Band. His performance at the Royal Albert Hall marks a major milestone in his young musical career.
-
Quinn Plews, a multi-talented performer who plays Percussion and Cornet with the Barnsley Town Concert Band. Quinn is also a gifted pianist and actor and was recently featured on Channel 4’s ‘The Piano’, showcasing his talent to a national audience.

Councillor Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said:
Seeing our young people perform at the Royal Albert Hall is a proud moment for Barnsley. It shows what’s possible when we invest in their futures and nurture their creativity. The Great Childhoods Ambition is all about helping families, communities, and local partners to inspire young people to dream big and reach their potential. I want to thank Barnsley Music Service for their hard work in teaching and supporting our children’s musical talents. The enthusiasm and progress shown by these young musicians adds so much to Barnsley’s musical heritage and will inspire future generations.
