Wednesday 24 December: Wombwell Market (moved from 26 December)
Christmas Day and Boxing Day: no markets
Saturday 27 December: Wombwell Market - open; Hoyland and Penistone Markets - cancelled
Tuesday 30 December: Wombwell Market - open; Hoyland Market - cancelled
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day: no markets
The regular market schedule will resume on Friday 2 January.
Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Our markets are the heart of Barnsley’s communities, and this Christmas we’re encouraging everyone to shop local and support our traders.
“Thanks to everyone who attended our Christmas markets in Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Penistone and Wombwell, which brought independent traders together to serve our communities alongside festive entertainment.
“By visiting your local market, you’re helping independent businesses thrive and keeping our high streets vibrant.
“We’ve made these adjustments now to allow traders and shoppers to plan ahead and make the most of the festive season, while helping our town centres and high streets to thrive.”
Our Markets team worked with Barnsley Council’s Dearne Area Team to organise the Goldthorpe Christmas Market and with Wombwell Business Committee and Barnsley Council’s South Area Team to make the Wombwell Christmas Market a success.
We will continue to support events that help our town centres and high streets to thrive.
