Festive Tipi set to bring Christmas Magic to The Glass Works Square

A festive tipi is coming to The Glass Works Square this December, creating a warm and welcoming winter retreat in the heart of Barnsley town centre.

Part of Christmas on The Square activities and operated by True North Brew Co. an existing tenant at The Glass Works with its bar in Market Kitchen, the True North Tipi will open from Friday 4 December until New Year’s Eve, open from noon until 11pm every day and midnight on New Years Eve.

True North is set to transform the Square this winter with the launch of its spectacular festive Après Ski Tipi, bringing an immersive alpine escape to the heart of the town. Designed to offer warmth, atmosphere and seasonal charm, the tipi will feature a striking festoon lit exterior, lush winter foliage and outdoor seating. Inside, guests will be welcomed by evergreen garlands, twinkling fairy lights, soft rugs and cosy throws, all gathered around a glowing central fire pit.

At the centre of the experience is a 12 line bar serving an extensive selection of drinks, including draught beer, wine, spirits, bottled favourites, mulled wine, spiced cider and a curated menu of festive cocktails and schnapps. A full range of non alcoholic and seasonal hot drink options will also be available, ensuring something for every visitor.

True North also offer bespoke Christmas party packages, private hire opportunities and a lively seasonal events calendar, making the tipi an ideal destination for businesses, groups and friends looking to celebrate the festive season in a unique and memorable setting.

The tipi will host a varied weekly programme, featuring brass bands, arts and Christmas crafts, live music and festive wreath making workshops. With its blend of atmosphere, entertainment and hospitality, the True North Tipi promises to be one of the town’s must visit festive attractions.

Christmas on The Square will bring festive events and activities to Barnsley town centre throughout December. Alongside the True North Tipi, The Glass Works Square will see the return of the popular Artisan Street Fayre from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December and Friday 18 to Sunday 20 December, as well as the Young Trader Market on Saturday 12 December. Visitors can discover fantastic independent traders, browse unique festive gifts, enjoy tasty Christmas treats and plenty more to explore.

Christmas on the Square will provide a seasonal meeting place for residents, families and visitors, while encouraging people to explore nearby shops, cafés and Barnsley Market during the Christmas period.

Cllr Luke Wheat, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets, said, “Following feedback we received last year, we know the tipi will be a fantastic addition to The Glass Works Square, giving people another reason to visit Barnsley town centre throughout December. Alongside the return of the popular Artisan Street Fayre and Young Trader Markets, the True North Tipi and Christmas on The Square will complement our wider Christmas programme and support surrounding businesses during a key trading period.”

Marc Craddock, Director at True North Brew Co, said: “We’re delighted to bring the True North Tipi to The Glass Works Square this December. We want to create a welcoming winter retreat where friends, families and colleagues can come together, enjoy great drinks and celebrate local talent throughout December.”

True North Brew Co. will also support Mission Christmas, its company charity campaign during the festive season, providing a drop of point for toys and gifts and supporting disadvantaged children and young people across South Yorkshire.
