Help shape the future of nature in South Yorkshire
Over 1,800 people and organisations have already helped shape the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for South Yorkshire and now we want to hear your views too.
The draft strategy sets out plans to restore and protect nature across our region, identifying where and how nature can recover and how everyone can play a part. The more voices we hear, the stronger and more representative it will be - and the better it will serve the communities, landscapes and organisations you work with every day.
Every response counts. Have your say by Friday 31 July 2026.
The views we gather will influence priorities and inform delivery, helping make sure the strategy supports the work already happening across South Yorkshire.
There are several ways for you to get involved during the consultation period:
Take the public survey - choose the short, long or medium length version to suit you
Explore the interactive map and share ideas for nature in your area
Email the team with any questions at lnrs@southyorkshire-ca.gov.uk
Councillor Paul Kelly, Cabinet Spokesperson for Environment and Highways, said: “We encourage residents and partners to take part in this consultation, as the condition of our parks, woodlands and green spaces affects everyone in Barnsley, from our health and wellbeing to the environment we live in.”
South Yorkshire’s Mayor Oliver Coppard said: “South Yorkshire is home to an incredible natural landscape, from our rivers and woodlands to the green spaces at the heart of our communities. These places matter deeply to us all and are central to our health, wellbeing and pride in where we live.
“But we know nature is under pressure, with many habitats in poor condition. Our Local Nature Recovery Strategy is about turning that around. Restoring nature and building a greener, healthier future for South Yorkshire.
“Our consultation is a chance for everyone to have their say. I’d encourage everyone to explore the draft strategy and share their views so we can shape the way forward together.”
