Katie O’Brien’s Now Open at The Glass Works in Barnsley
Katie O’Brien’s Irish Tavern is now open at The Glass Works, bringing a lively new addition to Barnsley’s growing leisure and hospitality offer.
The new venue has transformed the former TGI Fridays unit into a welcoming Irish bar, combining live music, sport and a strong sense of community. As a proudly family-owned business, Katie O’Brien’s aims to deliver an authentic Irish experience, centred on warmth, music and great company.
Since opening its doors, the bar has begun establishing itself as a destination for live entertainment, showcasing both Irish artists and emerging local talent from Barnsley’s vibrant music scene.
Guests can enjoy a wide selection of drinks including perfectly poured pints of Guinness and Murphy’s, alongside Irish craft beers and a curated range of whiskeys, helping to bring a true taste of Ireland to the town centre.
Open 7 days a week, from 5pm Monday to Friday at 12noon on weekends, the venue is also set to become a key destination for live sport, with major fixtures including the Six Nations, Champions League and Premier League shown on big screens throughout the year.
Gordon Codona, Owner of Katie O’Brien’s, said: “We’re delighted to now be open in Barnsley and to have had such a positive welcome so far. Katie O’Brien’s is all about bringing people together, and we’re looking forward to building a venue that the local community can really make their own.”
Cllr William Brown, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “Katie O’Brien’s is a fantastic addition to The Glass Works and a great example of the quality and variety we continue to attract into Barnsley town centre. It’s already bringing something new to our evening and night-time offer, and we’re pleased to see it open and welcoming visitors.”
Katie O’Brien’s further strengthens The Glass Works’ diverse mix of retail, leisure and hospitality, sitting alongside the likes of Nando’s, The Botanist, TK Maxx and Next.
Together, they contribute to Barnsley town centre’s continued growth as a destination for both day and evening experiences. This is supported by Barnsley’s ongoing commitment to a safe, vibrant and well-managed evening economy, recognised nationally through its Purple Flag accreditation for seven consecutive years.
With millions of visitors welcomed each year, the town centre continues to go from strength to strength, supported by a vibrant programme of events and attractions.
