Latest performance report celebrates more residents living independently at home

Seventy per cent of people who use our Adult Social Care services now complete reablement without the need for ongoing support, helping them remain independent for longer. Fewer people also require long-term residential or nursing care, with admissions for those aged 65 and over remaining well below target at 115 per 100,000 population against a target of 200. Admissions for adults aged 18-64 also remain below target.

This is just one of the fantastic achievements highlighted in our latest Corporate Performance Report, which sets out our progress between April and June.

Our latest performance report will be discussed at Cabinet on Wednesday 7 October. These performance reports are a great way to make sure we’re on track to achieve our ambitions for the borough and identify any areas that need more attention or improvement.

Healthy Barnsley

More looked after children are staying closer to Barnsley, with 86.5% now placed within 20 miles of their home exceeding the 85% target. This helps children maintain important family, education and community connections, supporting their wellbeing and long-term outcomes.

Learning Barnsley

Libraries continue to play an important role in supporting residents and communities, with more than 184,000 digital and physical visits recorded, surpassing the target of 172,400.

Growing Barnsley

Private sector employment continues to grow strongly, with 390 new jobs created, significantly exceeding the target of 168 and demonstrating the strength of the local economy and business growth across the borough.

Sustainable Barnsley

Residents and visitors are continuing to enjoy Barnsley’s museums and outdoor heritage sites, with more than 640,000 visits recorded in Quarter 1, significantly exceeding the target of 500,000.
