Warm Homes Team awarded funding to improve energy efficiency
Next week, Cabinet members will approve the award of over 3M in Warm Homes funding to support Barnsley residents.
Cabinet will approve the awarded Warm Homes funding of £1.5M for private sector housing from the Warm Homes Local Grant. This grant will focus on installing energy efficiency measures for properties with low energy efficiency ratings that meet our criteria.
Cabinet will also accept £1.59M for Council housing to improve the energy efficiency of properties where the residents are deemed to be living in, or at risk of living in, fuel poverty from the Warm Homes Social Housing Fund (SHF) 3. The SHF will deliver energy-saving measures such as loft insulation, LED lighting, windows and doors, and low carbon measures such as air source heating systems and solar PV.
Both these grants are to be used up to 2028 and will be split over a 3 year period. A place-based area approach will be adopted for the delivery of this programme. We will work with partners, Berneslai Homes colleagues and the principal contractor to arrange tenant and community sign-up sessions and encourage those eligible to access the funding on offer.
Funding will be utilised from the existing ECO4 scheme, up to March 2026 when it ends, to ensure that the maximum number of residents can benefit from all three funding streams. The Council’s own Affordable Warmth Programme will be utilised for residents who don’t meet the criteria of the three funding streams, to ensure that there is an offer for as many residents as possible in the selected areas.
Cllr Robin Franklin, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: "We're pleased to have been awarded funding for these schemes.
“We want all our residents to live in a safe, warm and sustainable home, and this funding will enable us to offer more support to those who need it.
"I’d encourage our residents to get in touch with our Warm Homes team for more information about other help and support currently available to them."
