Welcoming the new Mayor of Barnsley for 2026-27

Councillor Liam Hardcastle has been appointed as the new Mayor of Barnsley for 2026 to 2027.

He was formally elected as Civic Mayor on the 29 May Annual Council meeting, marking the start of his year in office representing the borough at civic and community events.

Cllr Hardcastle, who represents Stairfoot ward, was delighted to announce the two local charities which he has chosen to support during his mayoral year:

  • Barnsley Dementia Support (BIADS) - A local Barnsley charity supporting people living with dementia, along with their families and carers. Based on Dodworth Road, they offer advice, emotional support, and activities to help people stay connected.

  • Barnsley Hospital Charity - A charity supporting patients, staff and services at Barnsley Hospital. They raise funds to enhance care, improve facilities, and provide added support beyond NHS funding.

Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Liam Hardcastle said:

“I am truly honoured to be chosen as the Civic Mayor of Barnsley for 2026-27 and would like to thank my colleagues for their support.

“This is a responsibility I take on with pride, and I look forward to serving the people of Barnsley with dedication, respect, and commitment. Barnsley is a borough built on strong communities, kindness, and resilience, and I am proud to represent it.

“I’m pleased to support BIADS and Barnsley Hospital Charity as my chosen charities this year. Both do incredible work for people and families across our borough.

“My theme for the year is Family and Community, focusing on bringing people together, strengthening connections, and supporting one another.”

Outside of his professional life, Cllr Hardcastle is a father of two and will be supported in his mayoral duties by his partner, Natalie, who will take on the role of honorary Mayoress.
