Young musicians take centre stage at Metrodome this June
Barnsley Music Service is inviting families and residents to support thousands of young local performers at two events taking place at the Metrodome later this month.
The events will showcase and celebrate the talent, creativity and hard work of children and young people from across the borough.
The Key Stage Two Music Festival will take place over three days on Tuesday 23, Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 June, with performances at 10.30am and 1.30pm each day.
The festival will welcome 51 classes from dozens of primary schools, with more than 1,500 children taking part across the three days.
Thousands more family members and carers are expected to attend and support the performances, and the public are also welcome to attend. Entry is £5.
Alongside this, Barnsley Beats will take place at 6.30pm on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June, featuring a line-up of rock and pop bands made up of young people aged 11 to 18.
Across the two evenings, around 150 to 200 performers will take to the stage, highlighting the diverse and vibrant music scene among Barnsley’s young people. Entry is £6 for adults, £3 for under 16s
Councillor Andy Cudworth, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets, said: “These events are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the incredible talent we have in Barnsley.
“Barnsley Music Service plays such an important role in supporting young people to develop their musical skills and confidence, and it’s wonderful to see so many children and families coming together to enjoy live performances.
“I’d encourage anyone who can to come along and show their support — it promises to be a brilliant showcase of music from across our borough.”
Audiences are encouraged to come along and support the performers while enjoying a varied programme of music. Both events are pay on the door; cash or card payments are welcome.
Barnsley Music Service works with schools and communities across the borough to provide high-quality music education and opportunities for young people to perform and develop their skills.
