Arranging a cremation

To arrange a cremation and service at Barnsley Crematorium, you can contact us by emailing bereavement services.

If you've appointed a funeral director, they'll usually contact us on your behalf.  We'll provide the necessary paperwork to arrange a cremation, or you can download the forms here:

You are welcome to visit our office, spend some time in our Garden of Remembrance and see the chapel, if you're arranging a cremation.

Use of our chapel is included in  the price of the cremation, additional time can be purchased in advance. Please see our pricelist of charges for cremations, memorials and urns.

COVID-19 (coronavirus) update

Despite the Government relaxing lockdown restrictions, we expect constraints to be in place for public gatherings such as funerals for an extended period of time, which could be several months.

The number of people allowed to attend burial and cremation services is still restricted to immediate family only.

Along with adhering to social distancing, the crematorium staff are cleaning the chapel area between services. The use of hymn books and service sheets will be suspended along with family collections.

The crematorium grounds are open for you to visit. Please note the flower/book room remains closed. The gates will also be locked in the evening at 7pm, including Bank Holidays and at weekends until further notice.

We understand that the current stipulations will have an impact on the final farewell for your loved one and we offer our deepest condolences at this difficult time. The measures remain in place to protect families and staff at Bereavement Services, as well as yourselves.

Anyone wishing to delay a funeral until the lifting of such restrictions is advised that the wait could be several months.

The office remains open should you wish to phone us, but we request that you limit any enquiries strictly to up- and- coming services at what is a particularly busy and demanding time for our staff.

The Garden of Remembrance

The Garden of Remembrance at the crematorium has been developed to be a collective memorial to all who have been cremated here, or whose ashes have been returned for strewing or interring from other areas outside of Barnsley.

Over the years, it has matured into beautiful gardens, with a variety of rose beds, shrubs and trees.  It offers peace and comfort, providing a haven for quiet contemplation.

Throughout the garden, areas of lawn have been set aside for the scattering and interring of ashes.

We keep records of where ashes have been scattered or interred, so that members of the same family can have their remains located alongside a loved one’s.

Our Gardens of Remembrance are open every day, for you to visit.  You can choose where to locate a memorial within the areas available, and see where we can scatter or inter cremated remains.

The Flower Room and Book of Remembrance

The Book of Remembrance is on display every day in the Flower Room, close to the chapel. The pages are turned daily so that people can see the entries for that day.

You can find out more about how to purchase an entry into the Book of Remembrance, as well as other lasting memorials at the crematorium here.

We provide rows of flower vases for visitors to use for free.  To make space for future visitors we remove flowers after seven days.
