What job vacancies do you have at the moment?

If you are looking for a particular type of job, you can filter your search to bring back only the jobs that you're interested in. You can also register for vacancy alerts - you'll then receive an email when a job is advertised that matches your search criteria.

How often do you post new vacancies?

Most of our non-school vacancies are published on Friday morning. Schools vacancies are published throughout the week.

Do you have any public job fairs or workshops I can attend?

We have job fairs and workshops scheduled all year round. Follow us on Facebook or Twitter to be kept up to date.

Can I send you my CV or personal details, to be considered for any suitable vacancy?

We don't currently accept CVs for any of our jobs and we're unable to keep a list of people looking for particular roles. However, if you search our vacancies and don't see anything suitable, you can use the option on the page to register for our Talent Pool. You can also register for vacancy alerts to be contacted when a job is advertised that matches your search criteria.

Can I have a paper copy of the application form to complete?

Applications for council vacancies are no longer completed on paper. All applications must be completed online through our Engage system

Some schools will accept paper applications but this will be stated in the advert.

What is a vacancy alert?

This is the opportunity for you to register an interest in specific types of role using the available criteria. If a vacancy arises that matches the criteria we'll contact you by email as soon as applications open. You can then complete an online application to be considered for the vacancy.

What is the Talent Pool?

If you don't see a current vacancy that matches your preferences, you can register your interest to work for Barnsley Council. Please register to join our Talent Pool. This allows you to submit a speculative application for work.

Am I qualified for this role?

Please see the 'job profile' or 'job description' in the online job entry. This will list any qualification requirements.

I haven't got the right qualification for the job - what should I do?

If you don't have the right qualification that's essential for the role you're applying for, we won't be able to progress your application further.

Depending on the qualification, you might be able to achieve this by completing a course through Adult Skills and Community Learning, so you have it when applying for a position with us in the future.

Do I need to provide two references on my application form?

We need to receive two satisfactory references before we can issue a formal offer of employment. Where possible, references should be from a professional, for example, a current or previous employer.

Please make sure you include telephone and email contact details for your referees when completing your application form. 

When will I hear whether my application was successful?

Recruiting managers are expected to complete the shortlisting of application forms within four weeks of the application closing date.

Please allow four weeks after the closing date before contacting the HR Recruitment Team for an update about a delay.

Candidates will always be informed by email about the outcome of their application. 

When will I receive feedback about my application or interview?

Feedback about application forms is given at the discretion of the recruiting manager. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications, this may not always be possible.

If you are unsuccessful after interview, the email will contain details of how to contact the recruiting manager for personal feedback.

What sort of training courses do you offer?

There's lots of different training courses available through both Adult Skills and Community Learning and our Learning for the Future Assessment Centre.
