Reopening our libraries

We're pleased that as part of government plans we're looking at re-opening our libraries.

Each of our library buildings has a very different layout, so to make sure we're opening in the safest possible way for both the public and our staff we'll be opening each site in a phased way.

Why volunteer

We have a range of opportunities across the borough where you can volunteer your time to support your local library.

Volunteering will help you gain confidence, meet new people, boost your CV and learn new skills. You'll feel part of our library team; helping others to get the most from their lives. We'll support you during your time with us and help you to settle in to your role.

Opportunities with us

You can join us to work in a variety of different roles. Some opportunities work best if you can offer a regular weekly commitment, while others are available as a one-off or short term placement.

Volunteers help us to run additional activities in libraries ranging from our conversation cafe, code club, readers groups, Lego club and craft sessions for children and adults. We're also looking for people who'll work in the community as library champions.

All our current vacancies are listed on the Do-it website and with Barnsley CVS, where you can find out more about the roles we have on offer and register your interest.
