Changes at our markets due to COVID-19 (coronavirus)
Our general retail and second-hand markets have reopened. All traders, both indoor and outdoor, have carried out assessments ensuring the safety of customers and staff and are now open again six days a week - Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 4pm. Individual traders opening times may vary. Please contact us for more information on (01226) 772239.
Please adhere to social distancing throughout the market and shop alone if you can. Shopping visits should be carried out as quickly as possible to allow other shoppers to come into the market and to shop and support the traders. Face coverings are required to be worn before entering the market unless there's a reasonable reason not to do so. You can remove your face covering to eat and drink in Market Kitchen but when walking to and from the market to Market Kitchen you must wear a face covering.
Our car boot markets held on Sundays in the town centre and Thursdays in Hoyland are not operating at this time. Only general retail and second-hand markets are taking place as these are attended by registered businesses with the relevant insurance and a daily licence agreement with the legal requirement to carry out a COVID-19 risk assessment.

You'll find our award-winning, lively and historic market in the heart of the town centre. Trading since the 13th century, it's one of the largest markets in the North of England with over 100 stalls and includes a fantastic Market Kitchen. Goldthorpe, Hoyland, Penistone and Wombwell also have their own vibrant local markets.
