Building Control
Within five days of the project being completed, a notice of completion must be submitted to us.
This form must include the name, address and contact details for each of the duty holders and each duty holder must sign a statement to confirm that they have fulfilled their duties.
The form to do this will be sent along with your acknowledgement letter.
Your completion certificate
We'll only issue a completion certificate if the agreed inspection stages have been carried out to our satisfaction.
You'll be notified of the specific inspection stages that relate to your project and you'll need to book an inspection when the works reach each of these stages. We've produced a general guide to scheduled inspection stages that shows the likely inspection requirements for various types of projects.
You'll need a completion certificate if you're selling or re-mortgaging in the future as estate agents and solicitors can ask for a copy. This is your evidence that there are no outstanding requirements under building regulations.
What to do if you've lost your certificate
If you've lost your certificate and we have a copy on file, we can provide you with a duplicate. We charge £12.50 for this service. We typically have access to these for a period of 15 years from completion of the project.
Certificates for works where we've not been notified of completion
Where a building regulations application has been submitted in the past and works have been carried out or completed without us being notified, we may still be able to carry out inspections with a view to eventually issuing a completion certificate. We charge £75 for this service.
