Report a breach of planning permission

If you're concerned about building work or a development that you think may not be authorised, you can report it to us.

You can tell us about:

Before making your report

Before making a report, check our planning enforcement register to see if the building work or development you want to report is already listed.

How to make a report

You can report a breach of planning permission by filling in our online form below. In the form you'll need to tell us your details. We won't tell the developer who's made the report. We'll only look into genuine reports; if you submit a report using false details, we won't be able to look into this.

Please read the guidance in our planning enforcement policy which explains what we can and can't consider. It also explains how we'll deal with your enquiry.

What happens next

We'll look into the details of your report to see if there's been a breach of planning permission, and investigate the work if needed.

Depending on the type of planning breach we might give the developer formal advice. We may give them time to rectify the issue before we take any official enforcement action.

We aim to respond to your report within five working days and will keep you updated throughout the process.

To contact us about your report, email planningenforcement@barnsley.gov.uk and include the address of the property the report relates to in the subject line of your email.
