New council homes for Goldthorpe

We have recently appointed Keystone Construction Limited to build nine new council houses in Goldthorpe, marking another important step in the area’s regeneration.

The development will provide a mix of two- and three-bedroom homes, which will be let and managed by Berneslai Homes.

The homes will be built with sustainable features and energy-saving technology, including air source heat pumps, solar panels and batteries.

As well as the new homes, the project will deliver new public green space connecting Market Street, Cooperative Street and Victoria Street. Rear boundary works to existing properties will meet the police’s Secured by Design standard for crime reduction and will improve the rear alleyways.

This new development is part of the wider Towns Fund investment in Goldthorpe, with a commitment to regenerate an area of traditional terraced housing. It also supports the council’s housing strategy to increase the supply of high quality, affordable housing and create stronger, more sustainable communities.

Councillor Andy Cudworth, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Assets, said:

“This development is another important step in the regeneration of Goldthorpe and a clear sign of the investment being made in the area. As well as delivering much-needed new council homes, the scheme will bring better public spaces and environmental improvements that will have a lasting positive impact on this neighbourhood.”

Steve Feast, Chief Executive at Berneslai Homes, said:

“These new homes will give local people access to high-quality, affordable council housing in a well-connected part of Goldthorpe. We’re proud that Berneslai Homes will manage the properties and support future tenants to settle into homes that are modern, energy-efficient and built for the long term.”

Construction work started last month (May 2026), with the new homes expected to be available in spring 2027.
