Public weighbridges are a large set of certified scales designed to measure the total weight of vehicles and their loads. They measure the gross weight (vehicle plus load), tare weight (vehicle alone), and net weight (load only) of a vehicle.

Using a weighbridge helps you to ensure you comply with legal weight limits and safety regulations.

Who can operate a public weighbridge

No one can operate public weighing equipment unless they hold a weighbridge operators' licence certificate.

Public weighbridge operator's tests are conducted in line with the Weights and Measures Act 1985.

As an operator of a public weighbridge we're required to hold a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures. This ensures we can perform our duties competently. This certificate can be obtained after performing a test.
