Course content

Do you have to ask for help to complete a form online, buy travel tickets or book appointments? Do you want to be able to do these by yourself? This course explores the benefits of using apps and the internet in a safe environment and is ideal for those who don’t use a tablet device/smart phone or need support to communicate using one.

Content will include using a digital keyboard, accessing local websites and searching for information, comparison sites exploring apps such as NHS, stagecoach, local council.

No prior knowledge needed, just a willingness to engage and explore the digital world. We will provide tablet devices for use in the classroom but do encourage use of own device if prefer. BMBC Public WiFi available.

This course will help you to:

  • ‘Have a go’ on a tablet device, or your own phone/tablet, in a supported environment
  • Get familiar with a digital keyboard
  • Discover apps that will benefit you
  • Explore apps and websites for purpose such as planning a journey, contacting local council, NHS
  • Recognise a fake/scam message and how to block/report it

At the end of five sessions you will have a chance to discuss how you can further grow your digital skills.

Course delivery 

  • Classroom based delivery.
  • 5 x 2hr 15 min sessions delivered face to face in group setting.

Entry requirements

It's vital that you:

  • Have a commitment to learning and can attend all five sessions.
  • Are interested in learning about apps and using the internet to help you engage in the digital world.

Course fees

This course is free for all learners aged 19+ with no or low digital skills.
