Hoax calls to emergency services

It's an offence to make a malicious or hoax call to the emergency services.

If an emergency service is busy attending a hoax call, they could be prevented from attending a genuine call. This can cost lives and is a waste of valuable resources.

The police will deal with hoax calls made to emergency services.

Report hoax calls

If you know someone who's made a hoax call, please get in touch. You could save a life by doing so. By making a report, you'll help the police, and other partners, to identify individuals who'll be prosecuted.

You can report hoax calls to South Yorkshire Police by calling 101.

Visit 'ask the police' for more information about what's considered an emergency.
